Prepared Childbirth Class
This class is held for 4
weeks on Monday evenings from 7 pm until 9 pm at Windber Medical
Center in the second floor classroom.
We discuss the process
of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and pain management options.
Normal expectations are reviewed and abnormal conditions and
possible problems are explained. Signs and symptoms of potential
problems are also reviewed. Breathing techniques are taught for the
labor process. Newborn care, post-partum care and family charges are
discussed in a relaxed environment.
Fathers and mothers can
ask questions, interact and share concerns with other expectant
parents. There is a fee for the class and refreshments are provided.
The class is taught by Lamaze certified childbirth educators whose
goal is to make your childbirth experience the best it can be at
Windber Medial Center.
Infant CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation)
This is a class taught
every 6 weeks in the second floor classroom at Windber Medical
Center. The standard procedure for infant CPR is taught to expectant
parents and any other person involved with caring for infants. There
is no fee for this class. The time for this class is 6-8 pm on the
next Monday after prepared childbirth class ends.
Breast-Feeding Class
This class is held the
next Monday following infant CPR. It starts at 6pm and lasts for 2-3
hours. This is a comprehensive discussion about advantages,
techniques, body mechanics, infant care and breast care relating to
breast-feeding. Danna Boswer, RN, who is a certified lactation
consultant, teaches this class. She has many years of experience in
this field. Moms and Dads will gain valuable knowledge and
information at this popular class.
